Last Days in Mikumi and the Tree of Life

Thursday May 11th, we spent the morning in Saronga's classroom again, listening to one of his former students (now 1 of only 7 female tour guides in the country) address the class. We interviewed her afterward and she spoke of how important it is for her to inspire and encourage young women in Tanzania, where there is a clear gender imbalance in many fields.

We also filmed an informative tourism management lesson our teammates Breagh and Margaret put together.

Later in the day we went on a long and muddy walk to a huge and beautiful tree.

We were told it was around 300 - 400 years old.

Now I am sitting down, trying to catch up on organizing hours worth of footage and my blog, which you are literally reading right this second.

Tomorrow we will pile back onto the bus to go on safari for a couple fun filled days. And then we will be on our way back to good ol' Nova Scotia, where the more stressful work begins.

Also, as part of this project, I wrote a blog post for the NSCC International website. It's all about my reflection on the trip, so feel free to check it out once it gets posted:

I will definitely post some pictures and stuff about my time on safari, but for now enjoy some random pictures I didn't post earlier.
